To a mixture of ethyl 1-(1-(4-chlorophenyl)ethyl)-2-methyl-1H-indole-3-carboxylate (210 mg, 0.61 mmol) in MeOH/H2O (6 mL/2 mL) was added KOH (340 mg, 6.1 mmol) at room temperature. The reaction was refluxed overnight. Then the mixture was adjusted to Ph=4 with 1 N HCl and extracted with EtOAc (3×). The combined organic extract were combined and concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound as a yellow solid (200 ing, yield 105%) which was used without further purification.
