Procedure
932 Milligrams of 6-ethoxycarbonyl-3-isobutyl-5-methoxy-1,2-dihydropyrazin-2-one 4-oxide in 21 ml of methanol and 10 ml of an aqueous solution of 1N-sodium hydroxide were mixed and stirred at room temperature for hours. The reaction mixture was acidified by adding hydrochloric acid, and the precipitated crystals were collected by filtration, and the crystals were dissolved in chloroform-methanol, next the solvent was removed by distillation to obtain 830 mg of 3-isobutyl-5-methoxy-1,2-dihydropyrazin-2-one-6-carboxylic acid 4oxide.
