Procedure

Following a procedure similar to that described in Example 1(b), but using 878 mg of ethyl 2-butyl-4-(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)-1-[(2'-methoxalylbiphenyl-4-yl)methyl]imidazole-5-carboxylate [prepared as described in step (a) above] and 364 mg of lithium hydroxide monohydrate, 571 mg of the title compound were obtained as a powder, softening at 140° C. and melting at 165°-170° C.
