51 g of 2-acetylamino-indan-5-yl-3-pyridyl ketone are refluxed for 16 hours with 250 ml of half concentrated hydrochloric acid. The solution is concentrated and then adjusted to pH 12 using 15N sodium hydroxide solution. The precipitate formed is washed with water and recrystallised from 100 ml of isopropanol.
