A solution of N-trifluoroacetyl-8-bromo-7-methoxy-1-methyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-3-benzazepine (18 mg, 0.05 mmol) in dimethylformamide (1 mL) was treated with CuCN (20 mg, 0.24 mmol) and the mixture was microwaved at 200 C for 0.5 hours. The product mixture was diluted with water (5 mL), extracted twice with EtOAc (5 mL), the combined organic phases were washed with brine (5 mL), dried with Na2SO4 and concentrated. Flash chromatography (35% EtOAc in hexane, silica) resulted in 10 mg of a clear oil. MS calculated for C15H15F3N2O2+H: 313, observed: 313.
