A 100-mL, one-neck, round bottomed flask equipped with a magnetic stirrer was charged with compound 126 (294 mg, 0.5 mmol), MeOH (15 mL) and 4N hydrochloric acid (15 mL), and the reaction mixture was heated for 5 h at 40° C. Evaporation of the methanol under reduced pressure followed by basification to pH 10 with 10% aqueous potassium carbonate gave a white precipitate. The precipitate was filtered, washed with water and dried under vacuum overnight at ambient temperature to afford compound 121 as a white solid. m/z=414 (M+H). The preparation of compound 121 is generally shown above as step D of Procedure C.
