A mixture of 0.69 g (1.7 mmol) of 3-amino-7-methoxy-6-(2-morpholin-4-yl-ethoxy)-naphthalene-2-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester and 2.4 mL of N,N-dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal in 7.0 mL of toluene is heated under reflux for 1.5 hours. The solvent is evaporated and the residue is dried on high vacuum to yield 3-(dimethylamino-methyleneamino)-7-methoxy-6-(2-morpholin-4-yl-ethoxy)naphthalene-2-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester as purple white foam.
