Benzyl 3-(1,2-dihydroxyethyl)phenylcarbamate (8 g) was dissolved in dry DMF (50 mL) and cooled to 0° C. Imidazole (2.8 g) and TBSCl (5 g) were added and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 24 hours. The reaction was quenched by addition of water (100 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (2×100 mL). The organic phase was separated, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated to give a crude product which was purified by column chromatography to give the title compound (6 g, 60%).
