Trifluoroacetic acid (5 mL) was added to a solution of 4-(3-bromo-5-tert-butoxy-benzenesulfonyl)-5-methylsulfanyl-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester ((Example 12: step c) 240 mg, 0.5 mmol) in DCM (5 mL). The solution was stirred at rt for 2 h and the solvents were removed in vacuo, yielding 214 mg of an oil (quantitative) which was used without further purification.
