Procedure
Fluvastatin methyl ester (3.0 g) was dissolved in THF (30 ml) and the NaOH (1 eq.) was added. After 2.5 h hexanes (60 ml) was added and the slurry stirred at room temperature over night. The product was isolated by filtration under nitrogen, washed with hexanes (30 ml) and dried at 50° C. in a vacuum oven for 24 h to obtain 1.2 g (39%) of fluvastatin sodium Form CIV.
