Procedure
A solution of 1.45 g of (isocyanatomethyl)methoxy-dimethylsilane and 1.13 g of ε-caprolactam in 25 ml of anhydrous dioxane was heated at reflux with stirring for 4 h. The solvent was subsequently removed under reduced pressure. This gave hexahydro-N-[(methoxydimethylsilyl)methyl]-2-oxo-1H-azepine-1-carboxamide in quantitative yield with a purity of >90% (analysis by 1H NMR).
