0.50 g (1.80 mmol) of 13 was dissolved in 10 ml of EtOH, one drop of conc. sulfuric acid was added, and the mixture was heated under reflux for 2 h. The solvent was removed, the residue was taken up in ethyl acetate and washed 2× with water. The organic phase was dried and evaporated. The colourless oily residue is compound 16.
