Procedure
Trichloroacetyl chloride (0.3 g, 1.7 mmol) in dichloromethane (20 ml) was added at 0°-5° to a stirred solution of 2(S)-(3-(acetylthio)-2(S)-methyl-1-oxopropoxy)-4-amino-4-oxobutanoic acid 2-propenyl ester (0.48 g, 1.5 mmol) and triethylamine (0.31 g, 3 mmol) in dichloromethane (50 ml). The mixture was stirred overnight, the organic solution washed with water, dried (MgSO4) and the solvent evaporated to give the sub-title ester (0.49 g).
