990 mg of 4H-pyran-4-on and 1.5 g of cyclopropylamine were dissolved in 15 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide, and reacted by heating in a sealed tube at 100° C. for 6 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated to dryness, dissolved in 80 ml of chloroform and washed with 40 ml of water. The chloroform layer was concentrated to obtain 2.2 g of 1-cyclopropyl-4-pyridone.
