Reaction Steps

50 g (187.3 mmol) of ethyl 5,6-dihydro-5-methyl-6-oxo-4H-imidazo[1,5-a][1,4]benzodiazepine-3-carboxylate in 400 ml of ethanol are heated to boiling under reflux for 2 hours together with 150 ml of hydrazine hydrate. The precipitated material is filtered off under suction and dried. There is obtained 5,6-dihydro-5-methyl-6-oxo-4H-imidazo[1,5-a][1,4]benzodiazepine-3-carboxylic acid hydrazide of melting point 312°-313°.
