A solution of N-{4-[4-(4-nitropyrid-2-yl)piperazin-1-yl]phenyl}methanesulphonamide (100 mg) in methanol (40 ml) was hydrogenated at 3 bar and 22° C. in the presence of 5% palladium on carbon (20 mg) until no more hydrogen was taken up. The catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was evaporated. The residue was crystallised from aqueous methanol to give the title compound (55 mg), m.p. 225°-227° C. Found: C,55.50; H,6.04; N,19.66. C16H21N5O2S requires: C,55.31; H,6.09; N,20.16%.
