Reaction Steps
A solution of methyl(2-nitrophenyl)(5,5,8,8-tetramethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphtalen-2-yl)amine (12) (R4=CH3, 0.26 mol) in EtOH (3200 mL) is treated with 10% Pd/C (8.9 g) under hydrogen atmosphere at room temperature for 2.5 h. After filtration of the catalyst, the filtrate is evaporated to give the above diamine (13) (R4=CH3).
