Procedure

To a solution of methyl 2-mesitylamino-7-nitro-1,3-benzothiazole-5-carboxylate (350 mg, 0.942 mmol) in ethyl ether (6 ml) was added 2.0 M solution of lithium borohydride in tetrahydrofuran (THF) (1.41 ml, 2.82 mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 15 h. The reaction was quenched with saturated NH4Cl solution. The aqueous phase was extracted with ethyl ether. The extract was washed with brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was purified by chromatography eluting with 20% AcOEt in n-hexane to afford 189 mg of the title compound.
