1-(2,4-dihydroxy-3-propylphenyl)ethanone (1.50 g, 7.72 mmol), hydroxylamine hydrochloride (1.61 g, 23.2 mmol), and anhydrous sodium acetate (1.90 g, 23.2 mmol) were combined in EtOH (30 mL) and stirred under reflux for 15 h. After cooling to rt, water (20 mL) was added, the EtOH was removed under reduced pressure and the aqueous phase was extracted with EtOAc (2×). The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 1.54 g (95%) of the title compound as a light-green solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 0.93 (t, 3H), 1.52 (m, 2H), 2.23 (s, 3H), 2.60 (t, 2H), 6.32 (d, 2H), 7.12 (d, 2H).
