(2-Methoxy-biphenyl-4-yl)-methanol (170 mg, 0.79 mmol) [PCT Int. Appl. 1999, WO 9955726 A1 19991104] is dissolved in CH2Cl2 (2 mL) and cooled to 0° C. SOCl2 (1 mL) is then added dropwise. The mixture is then allowed to stir till no starting material left. The volatiles were then removed and the crude product is employed in the next step directly.
