N-(tert-Butoxycarbonyl)-3-tert-butyl-D-alanyl-3-tert-butyl-L-alanine (4.5 g, 12.1 mmol, example 10A) is predissolved in dioxane (3 ml). At RT, a 4 N solution of hydrogen chloride in dioxane (30.2 mmol, 120 mmol, 10 equivalents) is added dropwise. The reaction mixture is stirred for 30 min, evaporated in vacuo and dried under high vacuum. The title compound is obtained as a solid (3.5 g, 99% of theory).
