Procedure

Into cold mixture of diethyl[(3-bromophenyl)(hydroxy)methyl]phosphonite (30 g) and CH2Cl2 (120 mL) was added diethylaminosulfur trifluoride (16.44 g, 101.53 mmol) and the mixture was stirred for 2 hours. The mixture was then poured into water and washed with NaHCO3 and brine. Purification by ISCO (hexane/EtOAc 1/1) gave diethyl[(3-bromophenyl)(fluoro)methyl]phosphonite (22.6 g); MS m/e (M+H)+ 325.
