In a manner similar to that described in Example 24, 1.2 g. (3 mmol) of methyl-(2E,4E,6Z,8E)-3,7-dimethyl-6-fluoro-9-(2,6-dichloro-3-methyl-4-methoxyphenyl)-nonatetraenoate were dissolved in 10 ml. of methanol and treated with a solution of 0.59 g. of sodium hydroxide in 4 ml. of water. The work-up as described in Example 24 afforded 2E,4E,6Z,8E-3,7-dimethyl-6-fluoro-9-(2,6-dichloro-3-methyl-4-methoxyphenyl)-2,4,6,8-nonatetraenoic acid.
