6-tert-Butoxycarbonylamino-1-ethoxycarbonylmethoxy-3,8-dithia-cyclopenta[a]indene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (684 mg, 1.5 mmol) was stirred in TFA (12 ml) and DCM (15 ml) for 3 hr. Removal of solvent by rotory evaporation yielded 729 mg (quantitative) of 1-ethoxycarbonylmethoxy-2-methoxycarbonyl-3,8-dithia-cyclopenta[a]inden-6-yl-ammonium trifluoroacetate.
