To a suspension of 4′-{2-[(1S,2R)-2-hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-methylethylamino]ethoxy}-3′,5′-dimethyl-biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid (compound 1, 0.079 g) in 1,4-dioxane (0.91 mL) was added 47% hydrobromic acid (0.042 mL), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 10 min. The clear solution was diluted with an excess amount of diethyl ether, and the precipitate was collected by filtration to afford the title compound (0.037 g) as a pale brown amorphous.
