Procedure
To a solution of 1.8 g of (S)-4-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-6-oxo-3,6-dihydro-2H-pyridine-1,2-dicarboxylic acid 2-benzyl ester 1-tert-butyl ester in 15 ml of 1,4 dioxane are added 1.2 ml of 4N hydrochloric acid in 1,4 dioxane at room temperature. The reaction mixture is stirred for 1 hour and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the title compound as an off white solid. Rf=0.1 (EtOAc-heptane 1:1); Rt=3.94.
