To a stirred solution of 3-{3-[5-(4-dimethylsulfamoyl-phenyl)-4-methyl-thiazol-2-yl]-ureido}-propionic acid ethyl ester (Example 24) in methanol (5 ml) is added dropwise sodium hydroxide (2M, 3 ml) over 2 minutes. The reaction mixture is heated at reflux overnight and then allowed to cool to room temperature. The mixture is neutralised with hydrochloric acid (2M, 3 ml) and the resulting precipitate is filtered, washed with water (20 ml) and dried in vacuo to yield the titled compound.
