Procedure
7.8 g. (0.02 mole) of ethyl-9-(phenyl-hydrazono)-6-methyl-4-oxo-6,7,8,9-tetrahydro-4H-pyrido(1,2-a)pyrimidine-3-carboxylate are dissolved in 100 ml. of ethanol. To the solution 6.0 ml. of 98% hydrazine-hydrate are added and the reaction mixture is refluxed for 2 hours. On cooling the precipitation of crystals begins. The crystals are filtered off and washed with ethanol. Thus 5.4 g. (82.7%) of 9-(phenyl-hydrazono)-6-methyl-4-oxo-6,7,8,9-tetrahydro-4H-pyrido(1,2-a)pyrimidine-3-carbohydrazide are obtained.
