Procedure
A mixture of 58 parts of 4-chloro-3-nitro-α-phenylbenzenemethanol and 450 parts of a hydrobromic acid solution 48% in water was stirred for 45 minutes at reflux temperature. After cooling, the product was extracted with dichloromethane. The extract was dried, filtered and evaporated, yielding 71.4 parts (99.3%) of 4-(bromophenylmethyl)-1-chloro-2-nitrobenzene as a residue (int. 132).
