Procedure
A suspension of α, α-diethoxymethyl-β-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-1-naphthalenepropanol (250 mg), isomer A was stirred in 37% aqueous hydrochloric acid at 0° C. for 1 hour. The resulting emulsion was then stirred at 100° C. for 3 minutes and the flask was immediately cooled in an ice-water bath. The precipitate was filtered, washed with water and dried in vacuo to yield the title compound (152 mg) as a white solid.
