Procedure
A solution of 4-amino-3-chloro-6-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-3-(2,2-difluroethoxy)phenyl)pyridine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (0.300 g, 0.0008 mol) in methanol (5 mL) and sodium hydroxide (1N, 2 mL) was heated to reflux 1 hour and then acidified to pH 3 (concentrated hydrochloric acid) and allowed to cool. The resulting solid was collected and dried to give 4-amino-3-chloro-6-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-3-(2,2-difluoroethoxy)phenyl)pyridine-2-carboxylic acid (0.270 g, 0.0007 mol): mp 183-184° C. dec.
