Procedure

To a solution of ethyl 7-ethyl-2-methyl-4-(5-methyl-3-pyridinyl)pyrrolo[1,2-b]pyridazine-3-carboxylate (682 mg) in ethanol (20 mL) was added potassium hydroxide (5 g) solution (10 mL) and the mixture was heated under reflux for 1 hour. The solution was acidified with 1 N hydrochloric acid to pH 3-4 and diluted with brine, and extracted with chloroform twice. The organic layer was separated, dried over magnesium sulfate, and evaporated in vacuo. The crude product was triturated with ethyl acetate to give 7-ethyl-2-methyl-4-(5-methyl-3-pyridinyl)pyrrolo[1,2-b]pyridazine-3-carboxylic acid as a yellow powder (590 mg)
