A mixture of 30 g of 2-chloro-3-hydroxy-p-anisaldehyde and 230 ml of ethanol is stirred at 70° for 4 hours in the presence of 12.3 g of hydroxylamine hydrochloride, the reaction mixture is subsequently evaporated, the residue is dried in a high vacuum and recrystallized from methanol/water. There is obtained 2-chloro-3-hydroxy-p-anisaldehyde oxime of m.p. 174°-176°.
