Procedure

A solution of 34.1 g (150 millimoles) of the product from Example 1 in 300 ml of methanol was saturated with HCl gas, after which further HCl gas was passed in during the reaction time of 5 hours. The solid obtained on cooling was stirred thoroughly with NaHCO3 /water and taken up in methylene chloride. The CH2Cl2 solution was washed with water and dried over MgSO4, and the abovementioned product was obtained by evaporating down the solution and triturating the residue with diethyl ether.
