51.9 g (0.3 mol) of 4-bromophenol and 19.2 g (0.1 mol) of methyl 3-phenyl-2,3-epoxybutyrate are stirred for 8 hours at 100° C. and for 12 hours at room temperature. After the excess phenol has been distilled off, the residue is purified by flash chromatography (silica gel, 9:1 n-hexane/ethyl acetate). 7.2 g of a white solid are obtained.
