To a solution of the product of Step 2 (8.00 g) in 400 mL of CH2Cl2 was added m-chloroperbenzoic acid (26.0 g) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. NaOH 0.5M was added and the product was extracted in CH2Cl2 (6×), dried over Na2SO4, and purified by flash chromatography on silica with acetone: toluene 70:30 and acetone: toluene: methanol 40:40:20.
