Procedure

Gaseous HCl was bubbled through a solution of 3-[-amino(hydroxyimino)methyl]-N-[(1R)-1-(4-fluorophenyl)ethyl]-5-[methyl(methylsulfonyl)amino]benzamide (0.038 g, 0.090 mmol) (Intermediate XI) in 1 mL CH2Cl2 and 1 mL EtOH at 0° C. for 2 min. After stirring at 0° C. for 2.5 h, the reaction was warmed to rt for 18 h. Concentrated, redissolved residue in 4 mL Et2O, cooled to 0° C. and bubbled ammonia through reaction for 1 min. Concentrated and used without further purification for next step.
