To a mixture of 4-(1H-imidazol-4-yl)-3-phenyl-5-trifluoromethyl-isoxazole (90 mg, 0.32 mmol) containing [Cu(OH).TMEDA]2Cl2 (14.95 mg, 0.032 mmol) in dry methanol (5 mL) was added phenylboronic acid (81.0 mg, 0.64 mmol) under an air atmosphere and the resulting mixture stirred at room temperature overnight. After this time, the resulting mixture was diluted with water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic extracts were then dried over sodium sulphate and evaporated. Purification by chromatography (SiO2, heptane:ethyl acetate=9:1 to 3:2) afforded the title compound (48 mg, 42%) which was obtained as a white solid. MS: m/e 356.3 [M+H]+.
