To a solution of 1-chloro-4-(2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-D-glucopyranos-1-yl)-2-bromomethyl-benzene (2.0 g) in acetonitrile (20 mL) is added N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (0.47 g). The resulting solution is stirred at ambient temperature for 2 h before more N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (0.20 g) is added. After stirring at ambient temperature overnight, the solvent is removed under reduced pressure and the residue is filtered over silica gel eluting with dichloromethane.
