Procedure
3-t-Butoxycarbonylamino-3-(3,4-difluorophenyl)propionic acid (R)-α-methylbenzylamide (6.5 g, 16.1 mmol) was dissolved in 40 mL of ethyl acetate and cooled in an ice bath. The solution was treated with 50 mL of saturated HCl/ethyl acetate solution and allowed to stir for 40 minutes. Nitrogen was bubbled through the reaction solution for 45 minutes, and the mixture was then evaporated to dryness. The resulting residue was reconcentrated from methanol and ethyl ether, and filtered from ethyl ether to yield the title compound as a solid.
