Following a reaction and purification procedure similar to those described in Example (57b), 2.0 g of N-[1-(3,4-difluorophenyl)ethyl]-N-[(2-methoxy-5-nitrophenyl)-(4-methoxyphenyl)methyl]amine [prepared as described in step (a) above], 3.54 g of tin (II) chloride and 40 ml of a 1:1 mixture of concentrated aqueous hydrochloric acid and ethanol were reacted, to obtain 370 mg of isomer A and 591 mg of isomer B of the title compound as yellow oils, respectively.
