Experimental conditions analogous to those described for Step 1 of Example 1 were used with 0.50 g (2.01 mmol) of the crude 2-(3,4-Dimethyl-benzoyl)-3-methoxy-acrylic acid methyl ester and 0.22 g (2.01 mmol) of 2-amino-6-picoline to yield 1.12 g of 2-(3,4-Dimethyl-benzoyl)-3-(6-methyl-pyridin-2-ylamino)-acrylic acid methyl ester as brown crystalline solid.
