Procedure
To a solution of N2-cyclopentylpyridine-2,3-diamine (C5) (1.78 g, 10.0 mmol) and triethylamine (1.52 g, 15.0 mmol) in dichloromethane (100 mL) was added ethyl chloro(oxo)acetate (1.49 g, 10.9 mmol), and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. Removal of volatiles in vacuo afforded the crude product (2 g) as a brown solid, which was used in the next step without further purification.
