Procedure
To a stirred mixture of ethyl 2-(7-hydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocyclopenta[b]indol-3-yl)acetate (50 mg, 0.19 mmol) and cesium carbonate (94 mg, 0.29 mmol) in DMF (1.5 mL) was added 1-(bromomethyl)-4-(methylsulfonyl)benzene (72 mg, 0.29 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h, the solid was filtered. The filtrate was concentrated, and the residue was purified by preparative TLC to give the title compound (40 mg) as an off-white solid. LCMS m/z=428.3 [M+H]+. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 1.30 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 3H), 2.07-2.15 (m, 1H), 2.50 (dd, J=16.7 and 11.2 Hz, 1H), 2.70-2.86 (m, 4H), 3.05 (s, 3H), 3.52-3.58 (m, 1H), 4.17-4.25 (m, 2H), 5.20 (s, 2H), 6.84 (dd, J=8.8 and 2.4 Hz, 1H), 6.96 (d, J=2.1 Hz, 1H), 7.21 (d, J=8.8 Hz, 1H), 7.68 (d, J=8.1 Hz, 2H), 7.95 (d, J=8.3 Hz, 2H), 8.49 (s, 1H).
