Procedure

tert-Butyl 3-hydroxy-3-(1,3-thiazol-2-yl)pyrrolidine-1-carboxylate (1.0 g, 0.0037 mol) was dissolved in trifluoroacetic acid (10.0 mL, 0.130 mol) under N2 at rt. The reaction flask was wrapped with aluminum foil and the mixture was stirred under reflux for 3 h. After cooling to rt the reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo and used directly for the next step without further purification.
