Procedure
Hydrobromic acid (0.1 ml) was added to a mixture of intermediate D15 (4.5 g, 10.98 mmol) in acetic acid (20 ml). The solution was heated at 130° C. for 30 minutes under microwave irradiation. After cooling to room temperature, the solvent was evaporated in vacuo and the residue was treated with an aqueous saturated solution of NaHCO3 until the solution reached a pH of approximately 8. The white solid that precipitated was collected by filtration and washed with cold DIPE to yield intermediate D16 (1.1 g, 31%).
