To a solution of ethyl 7-((2-((tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino)phenyl)amino)-7-oxoheptanoate (3.7 g, 9.7 mmol) in THF/MeOH/H2O (V:V:V=4:1:1) (50 mL) were added lithium hydroxide monohydrate (1.3 g, 29.1 mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours and quenched with water (200 mL). To the solution was added 1M HCl to adjust the pH value to 2-3, then a white solid precipitated and was filtered to afford the desired compound (3.3 g, yield 96.5%).
