Procedure

A solution of 4-fluoro-2-methoxy-phenol (3.0 g, 21.1 mmol) in acetone (250 mL) is treated to with cesium carbonate (8.3 g, 25.3 mmol) followed by 2-bromo-1-(4-bromo-phenyl)-ethanone (5.9 g, 21.1 mmol). The resulting mixture is stirred at room temperature for 2 h. Water (600 mL) is added slowly to the vigorously stiffing solution. After stirring for 30 minutes, the precipitate is filtered off and washed with copious water to give 1-(4-bromo-phenyl)-2-(4-fluoro-2-methoxy-phenoxy)-ethanone (G-1).
