To a solution of methyl 2-((4-(2-fluoro-4-nitrophenoxy)quinolin-7-yl)oxy)-2-methylpropanoate (3 g, 7.5 mmol) in THF (25 mL) was added LiAlH4 (0.34 g, 9 mmol) in portions at 0° C. The reaction was stirred at 0° C. for 4 hours and then quenched with H2O (30 mL). The organic solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue was diluted with DCM (100 mL). The organic phase was separated, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The title compound was obtained as a yellow solid (0.95 g, 34.1%).
