2 ml of 2N sodium hydroxide are added to a solution of 759 mg of (5-fluoro-1-methyl-4-morpholin-4-yl-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyrimidin-2-yl)acetic acid methyl ester in 8 ml of THF. The reaction medium is stirred at ambient temperature for 24 hours. The reaction medium is concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue obtained is oven-dried under vacuum in the presence of P2O5, so as to give 695 mg of sodium (5-fluoro-1-methyl-4-morpholin-4-yl-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyrimidin-2-yl)acetate in the form of a white solid which is used as it is in the next step.
